Nestled between the Taconic and Green Mountain Ranges in Southwestern Vermont, the sixteen towns that constitute the Northshire have much to offer.

Since a food shed is "place + 30 or so miles", we also count the Mettawee Valley out Route 30 to Poultney and the Southshire, down Route 7 through Arlington to Bennington and Pownal as part of our region. Area farms, food and hospitality businesses and outdoor experiential and recreational sites do a great job of creating a "taste of place" that residents and visitors alike applaud.

Hilly and craggy, with high-quality loamy soils and abundant natural resources, the topography of the region is highlighted by the many small-scale farms that have such a big impact in their communities. Dairy, animal, fruit and vegetable producers join up with bakers, chefs, cheese makers and value-added producers whose collective products, passion and energy for what they do make the region bustle with vitality and life.

Visit our Farmer's Markets in Dorset, Manchester, Londonderry, and Bennington. Healthy living markets and eateries are dotted throughout the area as well. Farms and food businesses are tucked into the hills and dales of these Shires. Ask us for recommendations!
